WXlog/20110524 Skin Paint
From CSU-CHILL
As an adjunct to the Mid-latitude Continental Convective Clouds Experiment (MC3E), a NASA research ER-2 aircraft overflew the CSU-CHILL area during the afternoon of 24 May 2011. During the flight, widespread rain was falling, especially in the general area to the east of CHILL. The ER-2 flight tracks were selected to coincide with specific CSU-CHILL radials. The aircraft navigation was quite accurate; direct "skin paint" illuminations of the ER-2 were visible in many of the RHI scans.
