Pouring a new foundation for the pedestal and radome, July 6, 2007
From CSU-CHILL
A relentless stream of ready-mix trucks kept the concrete pumper busy most of the day.
-
The pedestal foundation is surrounded by the 100 foot diameter radome tie-down ring.
-
Forms and reinforcement structure for the grade beam which will support the radome.
-
Concrete pump slowly fills the ring, while workers finish the central pad.
-
One of the three inflation ducts which route air from the blowers into the radome.
-
Heavily reinforced central pedestal foundation contains pedestal bolt cage.
-
Pumping crane and new construction appear to dwarf the current radome.
-
Pump operator uses a wireless remote to guide the concrete output tube into the forms.
-
Top of radome ring is finished by hand while the level is check by a laser detector.

Laser leveler (in foreground) provides a height reference for finishing the concrete.
