CSU-CHILL Casebook: 19 June, 2003

Scattered thunderstorms developed within the CSU-CHILL coverage area during the evening of 19 June 2003 (UTC date; locally 18 June). Some of these storms produced locally intense rain rates. One such heavy rain area passed through southeastern Larimer County where a flash flood warning was issued around 0220 UTC. The echo cores in this area typically contained reflectivity levels of ~50 dBZ, ZDR values of ~ +2 - 3 dB, and appreciable differential propagation phase shift. (See the echo area approximately 40 km west of the CHILL radar at 0153:47 UTC). This echo area subsequently produced torrential rain over the western portions of Ft. Collins.
