Thunderstorm Zdr regimes. A low elevation angle CSU-CHILL PPI sweep through a strong thunderstorm captures several Zdr regimes: Positive values in areas of oblate raindrops; ~0 dB values from randomly oriented hailstones; and negative Zdr levels in the three body scattering artifact located down-range of the echo core.
