CSU-CHILL Casebook: 29 August, 2002

During the evening hours of 28 August 2002 (29 August on UTC), a supercell thunderstorm developed approximately 80 km north-northeast of the CHILL radar. Severe weather spotters observed a tornado near the town of Burns, WY around 0136 UTC. A hook echo was present in the low elevation angle reflectivity field at this time. The associated mesocyclone pattern was visible in the radial velocities. (See the VCHILL link below). The storm subsequently moved southward into Colorado and lost its supercell characteristics.
