During the evening hours of 28 August 2002 (29 August on UTC), a supercell thunderstorm developed approximately 80 km north-northeast of the CHILL radar. Severe weather spotters observed a tornado near the town of Burns, WY around 0136 UTC. A hook echo was present in the low elevation angle reflectivity field at this time.
