CSU-CHILL Casebook: 27 June, 2004

Thunderstorms developed along and over the foothills of the Rocky Mountains during the afternoon of 27 June 2004 in the southwest azimuth of the CSU-CHILL radar. Locally heavy rains caused flash flooding in several areas located generally to the west of the city of Denver. Flood-producing rain was detected in the near Golden, Colorado around 2200 UTC. (see the VCHILL example below.) The appreciable PHIDP accumulation along the beam paths through the Golden storm indicate that several inch per rain rates were occurring.
