Overview of the lab facilities

Much of the RF instrumentation available at the CHILL facility was meant for use when troubleshooting the radar, and no dedicated lab space existed for a while. The addition of the new lab space allows CHILL staff and students from CSU to work on their respective projects with access to the newest instrumentation.

In February 2009, new lab space was created using a part of the conference room facilities.

Instrument Bench

Instrument Bench of the laboratory space, CHILL facility. The bench is eight ft long, with three drawers, a lower shelf, two power strips, a bin rail with bins, an upper shelf and a 130W light fixture. The bench is provided with six Gigabit Ethernet jacks. A 750 VA UPS provides power for the instruments through one of the power strips. The remaining strip is powered from commercial power. Storage bins on the right side of the bench are provided for test cables, parts, etc.

Also provided is a Linux PC for general lab automation. This is a dual-core AMD Opteron, running CentOS 5.

Soldering Station

Soldering station at the lab facilities, CSU-CHILL. A soldering station and hot-air rework station are available. The bench has four ft of space, three drawers, power strip, a storage bin rail, upper shelf and a 120W light fixture. This bench obtains power from the building UPS. This bench has four Gigabit Ethernet ports.
