Rain fell during the early stages of the March 2003 Colorado Front Range winter storm. In the range interval where the 360 PPI sweeps intercepted the melting layer, the presence of a mixture of both completely and partially melted hydrometeors produced a ring of distinctive radar signatures. A few hours after the time shown in these example images, the ring pattern contracted into the radar site and disappeared as the precipitation changed entirely to snow.
