From CSU-CHILL

The initial COMET project was formally conducted during the convective storm seasons of 2002 and 2003. During COMET operations, the CSU-CHILL radar executed a sequence of four low elevation angle PPI scans. This data collection procedure was designed to support the automated generation of rainfall accumulations on a Cartesian grid within ranges of 100 km. Rob Cifelli's "blended algorithm" scheme was used to objectively select the rain rate estimation relation used at each grid point.
